Journey from ‘Summer’ to ‘Winter’

Like confused Canadian Geese, Stacey and I flock from East to West every year around this time. We’ve packed up our gear, said our goodbyes, and left NC for various mountains across the country.

Family Fun: A Murder Mystery & Thanksgiving in Boston

My mom’s 70th birthday was this year, so Stacey and I threw her (and all her friends) a Murder Mystery party. For the uninitiated, a murder mystery party is where everyone is given a character to dress and act like at the party. Each character is given objectives and at some point in the evening one of the characters dies and it’s the job of all the rest to determine the killer. It’s kinda nerdy but a ton of fun! The theme of this party was “Murder at Mayhem High” and all of my parents’ friends came with their best 80’s high school energy. Turned out to be an absolute blast!

Over the next couple of days we loaded up Beefy with our winter belongings, and headed up to Boston to visit my Dad’s side of the family for Thanksgiving. It was great seeing everyone for dinners and candlepin bowling.

Kicking off ski season

To start off the year we skied four east coast ski resorts across four states: Killington (VT), Loon (NH), Windham (NY), and Blue Mountain (PA). Loon has become our favorite east coast ski resort because of their fantastic infrastructure: great lifts, nice town, and world-class snow making. It’s not quite the same as skiing out west, but it gave us a fun early season adventure.

Camper life

On our way out of New Jersey we picked up our camper and were promptly kicked out of two camping spots in NJ before we trekked the few miles over the border for some solace in PA. Neither of us minded leaving NJ; aside from our lovely family and delicious bagels, we prefer other states.

We worked mornings then traveled in the camper for a few hours every day for some evening activity (including some Amish tourism, pictured below). We dropped off the camper in Nebraska and continued on to Winter Park, CO — a story for another day.
