Kicking off Spring: Powder Days and Cliff Drops
Spring is my favorite season—great weather, longer days, peak snowpack, and dropping avalanche danger. What’s not to love?
FRIENDS COME VISIT
Kelcie and Stacey skied Snowbasin, we all met up at Unita Brewing, and she brought us Highlands beer!
Tim & Michelle visited for backcountry and resort skiing (more below)
Rubie & Lizzie drove down from Park City to ski Alta with me on a powder day.
Cleo & Nico were in town and met us at Snowbasin for some turns and drinks.
I also made a few new friends: Daniel, a former Snowbasin local who adventured with me (more below); Marco, a fellow tele skier who followed me into a mandatory drop entry to a sketchy chute and became instant besties; and Drake, a chill Cali bro I met in the hot tub.
S&J GO VISIT
Stacey visited Raleigh to catch up with friends and celebrate the 10th anniversary of Run Club.
We visited Carly and the kids, spending a couple of nights enjoying quality time with her four rapidly growing boys.
We celebrated my cousin Olivia’s Bat Mitzvah in NYC and had a blast dancing with middle-schoolers and backup dancers then hitting the city until 5am, as is tradition when we’re in The Big Apple.
PETSITTING
We did less petsitting this month and instead split accommodations friends, but I have to shout out my favorite animals:
Grumpy Cat – Just look at that face!
The Chickens – All super friendly, but Buffalina (my name for her) stole my heart – always the first to greet me in the morning. I brought them treats every day and made a short video in homage <3
PLAYING IN THE SNOW
Tim & Michelle arrived just in time for fresh snow, and we scored a string of epic powder days at Brighton, Solitude, and Snowbird, plus some favorite backcountry lines. The highlight? Dropping a ~25ft cliff with Tim in deep hero snow at Snowbird—crowd cheering and all. Radical!
Tim and I decided we wanted even more adventure so we hiked into the backcountry with 50lb packs and built an igloo for the night. It was a serious challenge and a lot of fun. We finished just before sunset and a storm rolled in. Cozy, warm, and surprisingly spacious—it’s still standing a month later. Might even move back in with Stacey!
Once Tim left, Stacey and I returned to housesitting near Snowbasin, where steep, narrow chutes were calling my name. To tackle the gnarliest lines, I teamed up with a local named Daniel who braved some pretty treacherous terrain with me.
Our first run together was barely a run: a super narrow, nearly vertical chute with mandatory straight-lines, kick turns, and cliff drops. Naturally, we hiked back up for more.
The next day, we pushed further—scrambling a steep, technical ridge line outside the resort and dropping into the legendary (but rarely skied) Three Sisters. It was the most technical and exposed climbing I’ve ever done in ski boots. An absolute adventure.
SKIPRENEURSHIP
The Skiweegee got an amazing response after I posted a video on Reddit—over 100k views! Interest exploded, and I started selling to testers, moving over 100 units before pausing sales to focus on gathering feedback and refining the design.
I also put time into developing the GogShield—a simple plastic insert that adds hard protection behind your goggle sock to prevent lens scratches. I sent a few out with Skiweegee orders and made a quick how-to video for users.
I love love love this blog. There is so much here including actual information, funny references and great pictures. So much fun I had to read it again. The picture at the top of the igloo at night is absolutely fantastic. It’s amazing.
You and Stacey are two incredible humans . . . Your values, your adventure, your attitude and your willingness to live your own story, never ceases to gratify me. I love you both!!
