Boston
The next stop on our New England journey was Boston. Rosie & Eliza were our gracious hosts for the weekend! We had some extra time before meeting up with them, so we checked out the Harpoon brewery near their place. The tasting was great; would highly recommend to anyone in the Boston area. It was only $5, and we and we got to try most of their beers and learn a little history of the brewery. They recently started a new collaboration with Dunkin Donuts to make a canned spiked coffee. This was not included in the tour, so we grabbed one and a pretzel in the restaurant before heading out. Too sweet for our taste – we’ll be sticking to the espresso martini as our energetic adult beverage of choice.
On Friday night we explored some other areas of Boston including Somerville and “Southie” with Jeremy’s cousin Ian and his friends. Surprisingly the city “nightlife” starts shutting down at 12:30am and abruptly closes at 1am. Who know Raleigh went later than Boston?!
On Saturday we continued our exploration of Boston and breweries with friends! We went on a great tour of the Sam Adams facility where we got to try some things they were testing out along the way. Sam Adams has a bit of nostalgia for me because their Oktoberfest is the first beer I remember having at a bar. It was also the first one I had that made me realize there was more to beer than your generic macrobrews, and started one of my passions for craft beer! While this may seem cliche now, 20 years ago there wasn’t much to the local beer scene.
