Riding in with the Storm: First Park City Petsit
We made it to Park City for our first pet sit on Thurs., Jan. 11th. It was a 7 hour drive and some of it was through a pretty nasty winter storm. Stacey drove for about 6 of those hours before switching off with me for the final stretch (she must have been a truck driver in her past life).
We’re pet sitting 2 talkative cats and a geriatric dog for three weeks. The animals are super easy: The dog is super old and is happy just chillin’ most the time. The cats can be pretty talkative when they want scratches, but they’re easy too – they even do their business outside and they (sometimes) respond to meowing and requests to “come here!”
We’re about 5 miles from the Canyons side of the resort and another 3 miles to the Park City side, though they’re joined by a gondola. The bus system is free and frequent; there is a bus stop right at the bottom of the hill to our house and a park-and-ride nearby also.
As soon as we got into town, a storm rolled through and started dumping. We got about 5 feet of snow in our first week. It was AWESOME. The snowstorm, our arrival, and MLK weekend all coincided to produce super long lift lines, but the snow has been awesome and we’re super stoked to be here (so worth it!). We’ll share more along the way!
Pro tip on Park City powder days: Take the bus straight to the Park City side (Canyons tends to be on wind hold and parking is slim at Park City). Then, make your way up to the McConkey’s lift and ride Pioneer until McConkey’s opens. The terrain in that area is about 35 degrees with a big open bowl section and a tight trees section. Beacon/Avy gear recommended. Ideal for your deep powder days. Jupiter / Pioneer is good too. For a Canyons powder day: Head straight to 9990 (if it opens)– that’s where the killer terrain is.
