Boston Mills Brandywine
I think we found a champion of the tiny ski resorts. I thought that Jack Frost was small. This one takes the cake for sure. Despite the name, Boston Mills is no where near Massachusetts – it’s in Ohio. We made it just in time for opening day — and it was packed (and barely raining at all)!
We brought the trailer and were nervous about parking. Fortunately, they had designated RV parking — something we had never seen at any resort before. How convenient!
Average age: 16 years old. At first, we were convinced we were the oldest folks on the whole mountain. We were relived to see a few older folks sprinkled about — proving that we didn’t just crash someone’s sweet 16.
Longest lift: 205v.ft. To put it in perspective: you’d have to ski 11.5 runs here to equate to one run at Keystone.
Steepest slope: 14 degrees (their black diamond run). To put that in perspective, it’s virtually impossible for an avalanche to occur below 30 degrees (difficult runs tend to be around 30 degrees or higher).
We skied each of the open lifts and every open run once before deciding to call it a day. Skiing bumper to bumper with a bunch of high schoolers isn’t my preferred genre of “high-risk skiing.” I am glad we went — it was a scene for sure.
We’re heading west now, towards the infamous Dayton, Ohio, my father’s least favorite place for some undefinable reason. We’re determined to see this notorious city for ourselves. Tonight we’re staying at a cattle ranch just outside of Dayton. Needless to say, their burger was really fresh (you could hear the mooing).
Due to late season start times at all the other rinky-dink resorts the middle of the country, this was probably the last of our skiing until we reach Colorado. Still plenty of country to explore though! We’ll do our best to keep you posted.
