Driving days

We are often asked how far we drive each day, and the answer is that it really depends. What day of the week is it? Are we trying to get somewhere in a set time frame? What else do we need to do that day? Do we have the camper? With the camper, we usually aim for about 3 hours max. Today, however, is a weekend and we fall back an hour with the time zone change, so we went for 5 hours.

Who drives? I drive when we don’t have the camper, and Jeremy drives with the camper. However one of my reasons for getting a smaller camper is so I can drive too.

What do we do? We talk a lot of the time, but on long, extended trips like this we also pick out audiobooks and podcasts. On this trip we’ve been listening to Educated by Tara Westover. Last year we listened to all episodes in the Washington Post’s Presidential podcast.

We also try to find random things to do along the way. Today we found some good ones! Today our stop’s included a waterfall, an acclaimed “world’s largest candle” by a candle outlet store in IL, a diner, and several actual world’s largest items record holders and other big things in Casey, IL. We saw 8 of their 12 world’s largest items (golf tee, rocking chair, wind chime, teeter totter, barbershop pole, mailbox, key, and golf driver) and several of the big things including a token, ruler, sewing needles, and taco.

After a full day we spent our first RV park in the new camper just outside St. Louis! A nice treat to have electric, water, and Internet onsite!
