Fall Adventures: From Hopscotch to The High Holidays

Right after Lakefest, we had the pleasure of hosting my Israeli family (the Almogs) for visits to both Asheville and Lake Gaston. We packed our Asheville days with mountain hikes, downtown exploration, a baseball game, and plenty of craft beer sampling.

Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh never disappoints! We enjoyed all the usual traditions: Crowmeat Bob in the parking deck and Jaquardini rocking out with a TV on his head at Boxcar. But this year really stood out thanks to My Morning Jacket, who absolutely brought down the house with an incredible performance.

Our friend, Phil, is doing his farewell tour for his band, Town Mountain, so of course we went to see him when they came through Raleigh. It’s been fun to see Phil take on a more prominent role in the band through the years – they put on a hell of a show!

Our Raleigh adventures have taken us through a rotating cast of petsitting gigs. We sat Ava at our favorite house in Raleigh and also experienced our most challenging sit with a senior pup who was past his prime. Between the shorter stays, we enjoyed an extended, cozy stretch with Chris & Danielle’s two adorable cats.

We’ve become regulars at Triangle Rock Club (TRC), climbing several times a week and staying active with 20-30 mile bike rides that take us to breweries and restaurants across Cary, Raleigh, and Knightdale. It’s been an fun way to explore the area.

Football season has arrived, which is a a great way to get the boys together. I fully committed to the festivities by dressing as a pickle for our fantasy draft and week one – a tribute to our beloved pickleback shots. Even better? Both my Patriots and my fantasy team are actually looking promising this year!

My parents threw us a celebration with their friends, complete with gourmet coffee, fresh crepes, and plenty of marital advice.

Cousins Ayal and Melissa welcomed their new baby in Charlotte right after Lakefest and are staying put until Baby Hudson is strong enough for the flight back to Los Angeles. Stacey and I visited them to watch some football and hit up the local breweries.

My fraternity brother Buddy took me racing for the day – he’s a serious enthusiast and it was an absolute rush!

The Jewish Holidays are all packed into one time of year and we enjoyed all the celebrations: from Rosh Hashanah (New Year), to Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement), to Sukkot (Harvest Festival), to Simchat Torah (Celebrating the Torah).

Oh, and I almost forgot the most important update: I got new ski boots! Winter, here we come.
