The paved mountain

Crotched Mountain (yes, they named the mountain “Crotched”) is about 900 vertical feet of snow-paved wonder. New England has so much water, they can pretty much blow any hill into a ski resort. We got to the mountain late, because it was open until 9pm so we could take our time. Two lifts and about 3 runs open. The larger […]

Mount Sunapee

Mount Sunapee‘s lift takes you up 1,400v.ft. and they had 3 runs open (maybe 2.5, but who’s counting). Not too shabby – definitely an upgrade from Attitash’s 640v.ft lifts and 2 (really 1.5) runs. I feel like this mountain hit nail on the head with the classic New England vibe. Beautiful view, lots of snowmaking, and a lot of areas […]

Magic carpet

For the next three days we’ll be at Attitash Mountain ski resort in New Hampshire. As you might guess, early December, midweek is not a popular time to ski, so we basically have the entire hotel and ski resort to ourselves. Excited to have a big place with two floors and our own full kitchen! Another thing that is always […]

Rock skiing

Today we skied Wildcat <insert cat growl noise> in New Hampshire. (Live free or die!) The only thing worse than the visibility was the coverage. Great time/place to ski if you’re trying to destroy your gear. We stuck to the (two) runs with better coverage, got our 10k, and headed out. It was a fun time but it was a […]

All roads lead to VT-100

My dad loves directions and highways. At the top of the list is (apparently) VT-100. It’s basically the anti-Dayton, OH. Take that for what it’s worth. The point is that VT-100 got us to where we needed to go: Stowe. Breweries / Restaurants While here, we’ve checked out quite a few breweries and local restaurants. One called Alchemist had a […]

Ski day 10

Back to the original stomping grounds, where I learned to ski, Okemo. Ski in ski out is awesome – literally one step outside the door I click in / out of my skis. Perks of early season. Two lifts and about 5 legit runs open (Epic claims 24 runs open). One lift is a bubble, which is awesome on cold […]

Powder day

Fresh pow covers the landscape. Well, really one inch of snow and rainy… but decided to chase it anyway. Turns were pretty good at Mt. Snow (best yet this season?). Came back home to our ski house basement and got a fire going. There is something special about sitting around a fire in a cold ski town, reading / working. […]

The land of cord and cheese

Our ski condo at Hunter Mountain today was fully outfitted with old timey ski paraphernalia. If Stacey wouldn’t have stopped me, I might have taken their snow scooter for a rip. Felt good to get the gear on and some laps in. Hunter Mountain had a 1,500 v.ft. lift with 2 runs open on 100% manmade snow. Both runs were […]
